Skin Tightening

Integrative Dermatology is the first location in Florida to have newest XL version of the FDA approved Accent™ Skin Tightening radiofrequency device. The Accent™ is non-invasive, non-ablative, and virtually pain free. Developed for cellulite, fat reduction, body contouring, pre-liposuction skin tightening and post liposuction smoothing, it can also be used to tighten skin on the face, neck, chest, arms, buttocks and legs. The only sensation felt during treatment is heat; several treatments are needed to obtain the best results. Immediate tightening is followed by collagen remodeling so results continue to improve with time; maintenance treatments are recommended.

Cellulite Treatment

The "bane of existence" for many women is the dimpled, "peau de orange" appearance of subcutaneous tissue known as cellulite. It is often very difficult to diminish, even after consistent diet and exercise. The Accent™ skin tightening machine by Alma has a unipolar setting for deep penetration into this subcutaneous layer, tightening the collagen bundles and reducing the fat layer. Used with the bipolar setting allows for circumferential shrinking of the limbs; on the abdomen and areas which also have saggy skin there is tightening of the skin in addition to a reduction in the fat layer.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is used to treat wrinkling, acne scars, and irregular pigmentation. Because it induces new collagen, resurfacing will also cause tightening of the skin. Fortunately, gone are the days of having to stay in the house with oozing skin for two weeks! The Alma Pixel is a fractionated Erbium laser which treats microislands of skin, leaving untreated skin in between, from which healing rapidly occurs. Each treatment targets 20-40% of the surface area, so 3-5 treatments are needed to complete the resurfacing. Downtime consists of a few days of swelling and redness; make-up can be applied after the first day and most people are able to go back to their daily activities very quickly.

Treatment of Leg Veins

Unsightly leg veins are easily treated with the 1064 nm laser. To prepare for this treatment, topical anesthetic ointment can be applied first. It is also very important to avoid anything that prevents platelet aggregation, such as aspirin, NSAIA's (such as Motrin, Aleve, Naprosyn, etc), alcohol, Ginkgo Biloba, or more than 400 IU of Vitamin E per day. Wearing support pantyhose (available for order at Integrative Dermatology) after the treatment for 10-14 days will also improve the outcome.

Treatment of Dark Circles

There are three factors which contribute to dark circles under the eye. Veins which start on the scalp and forehead travel down the temples and branch out under the thin skin of the upper and lower eyelids. These vessels can be diminished or closed down using the vein laser. The second factor is loose skin - the eyelid skin is very thin, like shear material. When bunched up, it looks darker, so skin tightening around the eye using the collagen remodeling laser will effectively "shrink" the skin so it doesn't appear as dark. Thirdly, pigmentation in the skin around the eyes can be lightened using photorejuvenation. Combining all three treatments is the most effective non-surgical treatment of dark circles.

Chemical Peels

Superficial irregularities in the skin are treated by causing the top layer of the skin to peel off. Jessner's Solution (a mixture of the beta-hydroxy acid Salicylic acid, the alpha-hydroxy acid Lactic acid, and Resorcinol) or TriChloroAcetic acid is used depending on your skin type and what condition we are treating - be it acne, irregular pigmentation or fine lines. Peeling usually starts 4-7 days after the peel and is complete by 10-12 days.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses light and a light-sensitive dye to treat acne, rosacea, pre-cancers and superficial skin cancers in addition to cosmetic issues. During the procedure, a photosensitized is applied to the problem area, which is then exposed to photofacial light. The dye is preferentially taken up by abnormal cells and oil glands; it absorbs this light and produces an active form of oxygen acts as the therapeutic modality. PDT ensures high precision by targeting only the tissue in and near the treatment area.
