Chronic Plaque Psoriasis - 2nd Case Of Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy In A Raptiva Patient
Genentech, Inc. (NYSE:DNA) announced today that the company has issued a Dear Healthcare Provider letter to inform dermatologists and neurologists of a 2nd case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) which resulted in the death of a 73-year old woman who had received Raptiva® (efalizumab) for approximately four years for treatment of chronic plaque psoriasis.

Treatment Found For Psoriasis In Traditional Chinese Medicine
According to a study published in the November issue of Archives of Dermatology, an effective treatment for plaque-type psoriasis can be found in traditional Chinese medicine. Yin-Ku Lin, M.D. (Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan) and colleagues found that an ointment based on the dark-blue, plant-based powder indigo naturalis can be used treat the skin condition.

Survey Of Beachgoers' Tanning Habits Should Help Interventions To Prevent Skin Cancer
A study published in the November issue of Archives of Dermatology seeks to determine which beachgoers would benefit from targeted interventions to reduce skin cancer risk by identifying sun-protection practices and risk profiles. In the past 30 years, the Unites States has seen a rapid increase in the incidence of skin cancer and death due to outdoor exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR).
